London - The Great and Holy Thursday
On Thursday the 6th of April at 8pm, The Greek-Melkite Parish of Saint John Chrysostom gathered together to celebrate Holy Thursday with a mass and the ceremony of the Washing of the Feet.

The mass started off with The Office of Vespers with the Divine Liturgy of St Basil the Great, followed by the reading Psalm 104 and then the Litany of Peace, The Lamp-lighting Psalms, Incensing the Church, the reading Psalm 141 and 142. The Little Entrance consisted of the Hymn of the Incarnate Word, and the Entrance Prayer. After that was the Readings of Great Vespers, the First Prokimenon (Psalm 140:1-2), the Second Prokimenon: (Psalm 59:1-2), the Third Reading, a Small Ltany, and The Trisagion Hymn. Then the Liturgy of the Word started off with the Epistle, then the Prokimenon: (Psalm 2:2, 1). Finally, the Holy Gospel which was Alleulia 9Psalm 41:1, 9-10).

As for the Ceremony of the Washing of the Feet, consisted of 12 of the church’s youth (6 on the right and 6 on the left), performing the role of the disciples in a re-enactment of the divine drama of the Last Supper, Great Thursday. The religious performance was done by no other than our Archimandrite (Abouna) Shafiq. This was followed by lighting the candles in the dark and the procession around the church following the carrying of the cross, and being anointed on the head by Archimandrite (Abouna) Shafiq ending the ceremony at 10pm, with prayer in the church continuing until midnight.
