Essen: On Sunday morning Fr. Andrzej and Irmina Nockiewicz arrived to Essen for the Holy Mass of the Chaldean community in Saint Nikolaus Church. They were warmly welcomed by Fr. Rebwar Audish Basa and the local community. Fr. Halemba shared his experience of work at the Middle East, especially when during the genocide of Christians in the Middle East, he hurried to the rescue of the Church affected by war and persecution in Iraq. Fr. Halemba also presented the evangelization initiative “Our Way to God" to the assembly.
The project of launching this initiative in Essen was discussed afterward with Fr. Rebwar Basa from the Chaldean speaking community in Essen. This community is part of Essen Diocese , but Fr. Rebwar serves also Chaldeans scattered in Bonn, Mönchengladbach, Münster and Stadtlohn. Sarmad Rassam, a part of the parish team responsible for communication and IT assisted to this meeting to help with management of this new project. Fr. Rebwar, who graduated from Biblical Pontifical Institute, is author of publications witnessing about Christian faith, like eg. "A Catholic priest in the Islamic State. The story of Father Ragheed Ganni". He endeavors to boost the faith growth and cultivate Chaldean tradition. This is the reason why he propose to translate "Our Way to God" book into the modern Aramaic. He is convinced that this would facilitate the transfer of Christian tradition of Chaldean origin all over the world.
The community is looking forward for further developments and hopes that “Our Way to God” catechesis will start soon and give the opportunity to get to know Jesus better and deepen Christian faith of young people and adults.
